Intro
The Iceland Volcano Marathon is a unique and adventurous running event that takes place in an active volcanic area in northern Iceland. Here, where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet, you will run through a landscape that is constantly changing.
The trail takes you through the North Volcanic Zone, past geysers, black volcanic sand, lava fields, glaciers and small craters. The roads are mostly unpaved, which makes this marathon physically challenging but also unforgettable. This is not a race for a fast top time, but for a pure nature experience.
The combination of rugged nature, silence and impressive vistas makes for a running experience you won't find anywhere else. Those who find the marathon distance too far can also opt for the half marathon. For adventurous runners looking for something completely different from a classic city marathon, this is an absolute bucket list race.
